Safe Relationships in New Zealand
Working with migrant and refugee communities and professionals to reduce sexual violence and promote healthy relationships
RPE's Safe Relationships in New Zealand included the development of the following initiatives:
· Education programmes and translated written materials (16 languages) for migrant and refugee communities and for those working with them. The programme provided access to cultural information around issues of sexual safety, the New Zealand law, models of healthy relationships and community support
· Training programmes for professionals that provided them with ways to identify sexual trauma, improve their capacity to respond to disclosures, and make appropriate referrals for survivors and offenders
· The establishment of Aucklands first Migrant and Refugee Trauma Network. This network raised the profile of migrant and refugee therapeutic needs, improved their access to therapeutic services, and provided a forum for professionals who work with migrant/refugee communities and dealt with different types of trauma including sexual violence.
· A directory of therapeutic services for migrant and refugees to improve accessibility to services with cultural and language differences
