Tiaki Tinana: a sexual violence prevention programme developed by Maori clinical specialists in consultation with Maori leaders, professionals and representatives from hapu and iwi. In addition to community education, the Tiaki Tinana specialists work across the agency as cultural advisors. Tiaki Tinana workshops are available throughout Tai Tokerau, Waikato and Northland (primary/secondary prevention). Click here to find out more >>
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION - tuition based courses
Professional Education workshops provide training for health professionals, teachers, police, hospitality workers and others. Professional Education began in 2000 and expanded in 2008 in response to community need and now includes more than eight specific workshops:

Sexual Abuse and Trauma Inquiry and Response: for healthcare professions – training in recording history of sexual abuse and trauma and responding to disclosures (secondary prevention).
Youth and Sexual Violence: for youth workers – issues associated with sexual violence that may occur young people’s lives (secondary prevention).
False allegations: challenges the widely held belief that false allegations of sexual violence are common (secondary prevention).
Myths, History and Perceptions: debunks commonly held myths about sexual violence (secondary prevention).
Host Responsibility: for hospitality professionals how to prevent sexual violence in the work place and how to keep patrons safe (primary prevention)
Creating Safe Families, Whanau & Communities: for postnatal care and home based childcare professionals - preventing sexual violence, understanding offender behaviours and dealing with disclosures (primary/secondary prevention).

SAFE RELATIONSHIPS NEW ZEALAND - free of charge
RPE disseminates translated written materials (16 languages) for migrant and refugee communities, and for those working with them.
RPE developed a sexual violence prevention programme for professionals who worked with new settlers. This pilot programme was completed in 2009. Please look at our page on Migrant and Refuge for a fuller description of the pilot programme.
